How to Combine Multiple Products Into One Etsy Listing

💡 Tip: Etsy only allows two variation types per product, but with the right setup you can still combine multiple CustomCat products into one listing while keeping fulfillment accurate.

Overview

Although CustomCat offers a Group Products feature for combining multiple products into a single listing on WooCommerce and Shopify, Etsy's system works differently. Etsy only supports two variation types per product (for example: size + color). Because of this, grouping products directly from CustomCat will not work properly and may cause the product style to overwrite size or color variations.

The good news is that there are reliable workarounds to achieve the same result. You can still combine multiple products into one Etsy listing while keeping CustomCat fulfillment fully connected. This guide walks you through two methods to make it happen.

Option 1: Manually Create a Combined Listing in Etsy and Sync Variants to CustomCat

  1. Go to Etsy Shop Manager → Listings → Add a Listing.

  2. Add product details, then scroll to Variations.

  3. Create a custom variation type that will combine both the product style and size such as Style & Size (e.g., Unisex Tee / S, Hoodie/ S, Ladies Tee / S).

  4. Add another custom variation for Color.

  5. Upload product images for each style/color variation so customers can see what they’re selecting then click apply.

  6. Enter a non-customcat SKU (any numerical value or letter combination that is not in CustomCat's standard SKU format) for each available option and make sure the Quantity is >1.

  7. After saving changes go to CustomCat → My Products → Not Synced → Update Fulfillment, Sync each variation to the correct CustomCat product variation so orders route properly. Once properly Synced, refreshing My Products will verify that your listing is Synced.

Option 2: Export Listings in CustomCat Separately, Then Combine Using CustomCat SKUs in Etsy

You may find it more efficient to create individual product listings in CustomCat first, then combine the variations/SKUs in Etsy:

  1. Export each product (tee, hoodie, etc.) from CustomCat to Etsy.

  2. Each product listing generates a list of variations containing a unique CustomCat SKU for each Product, Size, Color, Design. Record these SKUs and the corresponding Product, Size, Color and Design.

    Example:

    Design 1 - Hoodie

    • Variation: White, XL→ SKU: CC-111-333-12345-33333

                Design 2 - Unisex Tee

    • Variation: White, XL→ SKU: CC-222-11333-67890-444555

  1. In Etsy, create a new listing that combines all products under one “umbrella” listing using variations (such as above 'Style & Size', and 'Color').

  2. Manually assign the corresponding CustomCat SKU for each variation inside the Etsy listing editor.

    • Example: Product Design 1 (combined listing)

      • Variation: Hoodie / XL, White→ SKU: CC-111-333-12345-33333

      • Variation: Unisex Tee / XL, White→ SKU: CC-222-11333-67890-444555

  3. Once saved, Etsy will send orders for each variation with the correct CustomCat SKU, and CustomCat will automatically fulfill them. Additionally, listings with at least one properly formatted CustomCat SKU will be displayed in My Products as Synced.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Variation Limits: Etsy allows only 2 variation types (e.g., Style + Size) so you'll need to combine variations types if you have more than 2 (e.g., Style + Size + Color) and a maximum of 100 total variation combinations per listing.

  • Product Relevance: Only combine related items (e.g., apparel styles together). Etsy discourages listings that mix unrelated categories.

  • Images Required: Each variation must have at least one image to avoid customer confusion.

  • SKU Accuracy: Be extra careful assigning CustomCat SKUs—this ensures orders sync correctly with our system.

Key Takeaway

While CustomCat exports each product as its own listing by default, you can combine products into a single Etsy listing either by:

  • Creating a new combined listing in Etsy and syncing it with CustomCat products, or

  • Exporting products separately and then merging them manually in Etsy by assigning their CustomCat SKUs.

Both approaches give you the flexibility to present one listing with multiple styles while ensuring CustomCat fulfills each variation correctly.
